Could the public be in for a formula one treat this year?
Hopefully, formula one fans will be treated to an “old school” style championship, where individual drivers return to being more important than the big-wigs behind the scenes..

I grew up watching some legends race in formula 1, Graham Hill, James Hunt, Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, etc.
The excitement they generated in passing moves, charges throughout the race, side by side racing at speeds of over 200mph were wonderful to watch.
In more recent years, team orders, technical standards, etc, have been ruling the roost and taking away the passion from the sport.

It should not be like watching a scalextric, going round and round, with less overtaking and too much emphasis on safety and rule books have only made fewer fans of the sport.

New rules this year state that the driver with the most grand prix wins will be crowned champion, only in the event of a tie, will points be taken into account.
For the drivers who do not have the most victories, they will remain in positions decided by points, etc.

As for the teams, the credit crunch effect, could well open up the championship. In return for a $30 Million cost capping, next season the teams will be allowed more technical freedom to develop their cars. This could even up the playing field for all teams this season!

The Brawn team (formerly Honda) are flying already in the final days of winter testing!
Alonso’s Renault has just made faster times but both Brawn’s drivers, Barrichello and Button, have been very impressive.
Lewis Hamilton is next, with Rosberg’s Williams behind.

Could we be witnessing the new exciting formula one season?
We shall see, the start of the new formula 1 season is just 10 days away!
